European Day of Languages 2023

Bonjour! Willkommen! ¡Hola!

Every year, the 26th of September marks the European Day of Languages. This is a day to celebrate the amazing variety of languages and cultural diversity in Europe. Mastering a foreign language opens doors to amazing new opportunities, new cultural horizons, and relationships that can last a lifetime.

Learning a language is challenging, and it takes a lot of confidence to succeed. In our language classes, our children are taught to believe in their ability to learn, allowing them to keep progressing without getting demotivated by difficult concepts and words.

Set up by the Council of Europe, the European Day of Languages has three general objectives:

  1. Alerting the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learned in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding.
  1. Promoting the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe, which must be preserved and fostered.
  1. Encouraging lifelong language learning in and out of school, whether for study purposes, professional needs, purposes of mobility, or pleasure and exchanges.

By marking the day at West Walker, we hope to broaden the horizons of our pupils.
